Introduction Late adulthood and retirement Marie-Edith Oyourou From the time humans are conceived to their death they go through different stages of development in this sequence: infancy, early childhood, adolescence, early adulthood and late adulthood. Those different stages of development present characteristics which are particular to each stage. The last decade had seen an increase with people age sixty and above. Consequently, this aging population has significant effects on many aspect of society. Life expectancy which was of 50 years in the 19th century had tremendously increase. Indeed the factors contributing to the longevity include; public health measure to many factors such as decrease in infant mortality rate,†¦show more content†¦Additionally, some theories of development in late adulthood deal with the ways in which we can approach our relationships, our changing bodies, our mental capacities, transitions in intimate relationship, our families, society in a large and voluntaries or involuntary relocation. Among them, Erks Erikson’s psychosocial theory is determined by the stage of â€Å"ego integrity versus despair† characterized by maintaining the belief that life is meaningful and worthwhile despite the physical decline and the inevitability of death (Rathus, 2017). In the Disengagement theory older people and society mutually withdraw from one another as older people approach death. As to the Activity theory it states that older adults are better adjusted when they are more active and involved in physical and social activities. For the Socio emotional selectivity theory, it addresses the development of older adults’ social network. Additionally, during late adulthood different psychological issue can affect the older adult such as self-esteem issue, or independence versus dependence issue. Plus some psychological problems can occur such as depression and anxiety disorders. Another important factor is the social context in aging. In the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, Immanuel Kant proposes his philosophy of ethics. In order to accurately approach this topic and present fluent deduction he begins by defining philosophy into three fields. There is â€Å"Physics† of which studies the physical world, there is â€Å"Ethics† of which is the study of morality and finally there is logic of which serves to study logical principles. Kant then divides the studying into two parts as well, separating it as either â€Å"empirical† (serving to study experiences) or â€Å"pure† (serving to study concepts). As Kant uses this work to achieve a certain goal it is important to note that within the text he is proposing a pure study of morality, for morality is applied to all rational beings and†¦show more content†¦When driven to undertake an action for the necessity of something such as the attainment of personal happiness or anything else less than universal it is referred to by Ka nt as a â€Å"hypothetical imperative.† Kant then explains that this should be thought of as discouraging for moral principles are derived from reason and not from experience.
